The Slipstream is one of my favorite models from PUMA because of the layering and the potential for so many different materials to be used. I started with my Diet Starts Monday collab pair and redesigned it with my own image in mind. My favorite sneakers are the ones with funky materials, mismatched left and right shoes, and overlays that stand out. I wanted to make a super fun and detailed sneaker that I would want to wear myself. I created an in depth tech pack for this assignment and had to pull together all construction callouts, material specifications, timelines, and factory communication.
Billiards Slipstream
Growing up we had a room in our house with a pool table and my parents would host parties for friends and family and on holidays we would often end up in the room at the end of the night. I played with my dad and my cousins, and we had a beautiful table with tan felt and tasseled rope pockets.
In this design I wanted to combine my love of PUMA's various signature suedes and the aesthetics of a billiards hall for a playful and colorful statement sneaker.
RETRO SKI SUEDE MID XXI
I love pulling inspiration from things in my own life and I wanted to create a colorway for a sneaker I would want to throw on after a day of skiing. I used the form of the PUMA Suede Mid XXI and pretended I was making a special collaboration shoe. This was a quicker turnaround project than my last design I shared, and I would love to keep tweaking and developing these. The focus for this project was colors and materials, and I am happy with how they come together here. For me, skiing has always been about the outfit. My skis needed to match my boots and my poles and my jacket. What you wear is what allows your friends to keep track of you on the way down the hill and stick together. For materials, I stuck with mostly suede, hairy suede, and leather for the upper, but if I could go back I would add a fleece lining!
